The novel is about a woman called Racheal Vandicamp, a young woman who has inherited 100 million dollars after the sudden passing of her grandmother, Jessica. As Rachael and her daughter Page are the only remaining heirs to the family fortune, as Rachael's mother had passed away when she was 15 and her grandmother had taken care of her and her daughter Page.
Rachael had her daughter at 15. She was trying to find so many different ways to grieve for her mother, this made her vulnerable and sexually active; she ended up getting pregnant for a guy called Trevor. Both were deeply in love with each other, even though they were very young. Trevor was three years older than her and due to state law ends up getting transferred to a different state and imprisoned for 5 years.
Rachael’s grandmother helps her to bring up her daughter, but then suddenly dies when Page is five; Rachael’s grandmother not only lives a fortune but leaves her trusted butler and close family friend Jeeves to take care of Rachel and Page. Jeeves just before the death of Rachael’s grandmother, she allows him to hire his nephew, Marcus as a male nanny to help look after Page as she grows up. He has currently moved into the state and was looking for a place to live and work.
When Page is 7, Rachael gets married to an older guy called Chuck, who is actually a scam artist and only marries Rachael, so he can kill both her and her daughter, so he can inherit Rachael’s fortune and expand his empire. He is currently the face of Go Go Coffee and has many different chains. He has a big secret; he is responsible for the death of Rachael’s grandmother, whom he poisons using his own coffee.
At the age of 10, Page is kidnapped on her way to school with Marcus. Marcus then writes a ransom note wanting at least 50 million dollars, if they want her to safe return.
The real question is why would Marcus kidnap Page? Or has been set up by Chuck to get rid of him and what is Marcus been hiding for all these years.
